Hi !
As the title says, I've never selfhosted anything. I'm in the process of getting a spare laptop. I wa'ted to make it a server to selfhost sole services like a DNS adblock, maybe a nextcloud to backup and sync photos etc…
So, here are a few questions
1- Do I have to separate every service one way or another ?
2- How, containers, disk partitions, other ?
3- Do I need several machines for each its own service ?
4- Is nixOS a good distro for a server ? My work is transitionning to nix in a few years, I *could* have a career opportunity if I'm already familiar with it.
5- If nix is a no go for server, which do you recommend ? Good ol' debian ?
