I just switched my residential network infrastructure to Unifi (from a dealer pushed Araknis system- it’s night and day). I love Ubiquiti.
But there is one problem with an Axis unmanaged switch not playing nice with my unifi switch.
I have Axis S2208 mk1 NVR (IP camera server) that has its own built-in POE “level 2” switch (U1 Ethernet port). I have 4 cameras connected to the Axis NVR internal switch. The NVR device then plugs into my Unifi XG 10 Poe switch.
The port the NVR it plugs into keeps changing its connection status between the various MAC addresses (Axis switch MAC/IP itself , then the 4 other cameras connected to the NVR switch). It keeps cycling and does not lock onto anything. Sometimes it even shows a new 02: internal MAC address on the port, which to me suggests the Unifi gateway (UCG-Fiber) is struggling.
What is the best practice to prevent this MAC flapping or whatever is happening in Unifi ?
I configured the Axis NVR “level 2” switch to NOT use its own DHCP server, and default to a static IP. I put “level 2” in quotes because the web configuration portal for the axis internal poe switch does not give options for vlan ID or anything beyond the static ip / gateway/ dns (which I configured properly- static , DHCP off). I ensured the static IP is in the same subnet as the camera VLAN10. The unifi port is VLAN10, block all.
I tried setting the affected unfi switch port to :
1. STP disabled
2. Edge device (rather than infrastructure)
3. LLDP off
None of these settings made a difference. The MAC table on that port keeps showing all the devices (switch IP and 4 cameras) connected for 2-8 minutes on insight and the connected port device keeps changing every few seconds.
Is this how Unifi handles 3rd party bridged switches ? It seems broken.
