According to Justice.gov, In 2024, the Justice Department announced the seizure of 32 internet domains used in Russian government-directed foreign malign influence campaigns targeting specific communities in Tennessee.
Right now there is a terrifying issue affecting my local community. AI generated articles and videos coming from the website “myrtlebeachsc.com” are flooding our local Facebook groups. Additionally, the site owners have also purchased the domains “myrtle-beach.com” and “palmettoscnews.com”. These are extremely high profile domain names and must have cost a fortune to buy. I am posting today to spark interest in these companies and hope more people will help my efforts to understand why our community is being targeted and who is targeting us.
Despite it’s high profile nature, the news site is being used largely to create inflammatory articles and stories which have little news value or relevance. The attached video discusses a “cookie cart” which our city shut down. The cookie cart was selling product made from home without a proper license or permit. The story is being held as an injustice. The newscaster depicted in the video, strongly resembles a local politician who has run for city council 3 times since 2020. However, the person in the video does not claim to be this politician or show any affiliation with her.
I strongly believe that there is a foreign influence trying to take control of our local community and development. If you read their articles, they often attack small business owners and locals who have built their lives in our town. One video specifically attacks the owner of a local kayaking business. This cannot go on! Their Facebook page has over 400k followers and is posting content like this daily.
