I’ve been working on Mrouter-OS v1.0.0, a package-first management layer for OpenWrt 25.12.5 x86-64.
It installs over an existing OpenWrt system, keeps native LuCI available, and adds a much cleaner everyday interface without needing to reflash the router.
Some of the main features are:
- Tailscale integration
- WireGuard and OpenVPN management
- Policy-Based Routing for choosing which devices use which VPN/WAN path
- Parental controls and scheduling
- Content filtering
- AdGuard Home integration
- Encrypted DNS support
- Local Services dashboard for Home Assistant, Pi-hole, Proxmox, Immich, Jellyfin, Plex, NAS, Portainer, Grafana and custom services
- Modern pages for Internet, clients, networks, DHCP/DNS, firewall, routing, SQM, diagnostics, logs, processes and system health
- Simplified setup while still keeping Expert LuCI available
The goal is to make OpenWrt easier to manage without taking away the advanced features underneath.
I’ve also tested the v1.0.0 installer on a completely fresh OpenWrt installation, including package downloads, checksum verification, dependency installation and preserving the existing LAN/WAN setup.

I’d really appreciate feedback from OpenWrt users.
I’m especially interested in feedback on the UI, Tailscale/VPN/PBR workflow, parental controls, AdGuard/DNS features, local services integration, and whether this package-first approach is useful compared with installing a completely different firmware.
