Hey everyone,
I’m having a really frustrating issue with VALORANT voice chat and I’m honestly running out of ideas, so I wanted to ask here if anyone has experienced the same thing or found an actual fix.
The problem is that voice chat in VALORANT randomly becomes extremely robotic, laggy and choppy. Sometimes my teammates sound like robots to the point where I can barely understand what they are saying. Other times people tell me that my own microphone sounds robotic or extremely bad to them.
The weird thing is that this seems to happen ONLY in VALORANT.
Discord works perfectly fine. My microphone sounds completely normal outside of VALORANT, and I can hear other people normally in Discord as well. I have no general audio or internet issues that I can notice while this is happening.
I also don’t think this is related to my headset or microphone. I already tried different audio/output devices and even changed headsets, but the exact same problem still happens.
Another strange thing is how inconsistent the issue is.
Sometimes I start VALORANT and voice chat works completely normally. Everyone sounds clear and there are no problems at all.
Then in another game, people suddenly start sounding extremely robotic and laggy.
Sometimes Team Voice Chat is broken while Party Voice Chat works normally.
Other times it seems to be the opposite, where Party Voice Chat has problems but Team Voice Chat is fine.
Because of that, I can’t even reproduce the problem reliably, which makes troubleshooting it extremely difficult.
I’m playing on EU servers and I’m wondering if this could possibly be related to Frankfurt / Warsaw servers or VALORANT's voice infrastructure/Vivox, because I’ve also seen other people describing almost exactly the same problem.
Things I have already tried:
– Restarting VALORANT
– Restarting my PC
– Restarting my router
– Completely uninstalling and reinstalling VALORANT
– Reinstalling Riot Vanguard
– Changing DNS
– Trying different headphones/headsets
– Trying different input/output devices
– Changing Windows audio/headset settings
– Checking my microphone outside of VALORANT
– Testing Discord and other applications
– Contacting Riot Support
– Looking through information about Vivox, which VALORANT uses for voice communication
Unfortunately, nothing has permanently fixed it.
Restarting the game doesn’t reliably help either. Sometimes voice chat randomly works again, but then the robotic/laggy audio comes back later.
What makes me think this might be a VALORANT/Vivox/network-routing issue rather than my hardware is:
-
Discord works perfectly at the exact same time.
-
The microphone sounds normal in every other application.
-
Different headsets/audio devices have the same problem.
-
Sometimes only Team Chat OR Party Chat is affected instead of both.
-
The problem is inconsistent and can disappear/reappear between matches.
-
Other players seem to be experiencing the same robotic voice chat issue.
At this point the problem is genuinely affecting the game because communication is extremely important in VALORANT. When it happens badly enough, I literally cannot understand my teammates.
Has anyone figured out what actually causes this?
Could it be packet loss specifically between the client and VALORANT/Vivox voice servers even if the game itself isn't showing obvious connection problems?
Could it be ISP routing, IPv6, specific ports, firewall/Vanguard interference, Frankfurt/Warsaw routing, or something related to Vivox?
And is there any way to check the connection specifically to the VALORANT voice servers, instead of just testing normal internet/game latency?
If anyone has experienced this and managed to fix it, please tell me exactly what you changed.
Especially interested in hearing from people playing on EU / Frankfurt / Warsaw servers who have had teammates suddenly sound robotic while Discord continued working normally.
I feel like I’ve tried basically every normal audio fix already, so any deeper networking/Vivox troubleshooting suggestions would be really appreciated.
