What's new
A WireGuard VPN, built right into Swiptv. This is the headline of 3.6.0, and it works on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. No second app to install, no juggling between a VPN client and your player: you turn it on in Swiptv and start watching. If you have never used one, I wrote up what a VPN actually does, and what it does not do, including the part where it covers the whole Apple TV and not just this app.
You bring your own. Swiptv does not sell any VPN service and never will. Use the provider you already pay for, or your own server. One thing worth checking before you update: not every provider hands out a WireGuard file. Where to get a configuration lists the ones that do, and the two big names that never will, NordVPN and ExpressVPN, since they both keep their tunnel inside their own app.
Three ways to add a configuration, and the one you should use is decided by what your provider gave you: import a file, paste a configuration, or add the values manually. How to add a profile is the short version if you are not sure which one you are looking at. Take the file when you can: it carries the DNS and MTU lines that hand typing almost always loses, and both failures are invisible until something breaks.
Apple TV setup without the remote. Typing keys and endpoints on a tvOS keyboard is miserable, so you do not have to: prepare the configuration on your iPhone and scan a code from the Apple TV. It takes a few seconds.
Where your keys go. The private key lands straight in the Keychain, it is never shown again, never uploaded and never synced to your other devices. Nothing about your VPN use reaches me either, what Swiptv collects spells out that split, and what your VPN company sees instead. Also in this release
- Trakt: the integration has been reworked and optimised, which fixes several issues. You will need to sign in again once.
- Downloads should no longer fill up your iCloud storage.
- Playback: the next episode now starts instead of staying paused, and buffering gets ahead on disk again, so a network drop of several tens of seconds should go unnoticed.
- "Recently watched" fills up again while you zap.
- Xtream accounts: servers whose address contains a path are accepted again.
- Apple TV: the main cast now appears on the movies and series home, the channels home has been reorganised, and category navigation, return to menu, Control Center and series pages have been fixed.
- Faster page loading, better TMDB matching for episodes, search in the icon picker with translated names, general optimisations and translation fixes.

A note on stability
Adding a feature this big is exactly when a player starts to wobble, so most of 3.6.0 is not the VPN: it is the list above, and it comes almost entirely from reports posted by users. That loop is the plan for the next releases too, so if something misbehaves on your setup, or if there is a feature you would like to see, the Discord discussions and feature requests are read and acted on.
