I’ve noticed numerous posts where people are saying that they accidentally updated the console and now they’re stuck on 14.20, a simple idea to prevent this is to use a mobile router, however most of them are on a software that has limited functionality.
After doing some research I came up with a simple solution and bought a GL.iNet Mango (GL-MT300N-V2) that acts as an access point for my PS5 so the console can safely connect to my home network via Ethernet cable (it goes for around 30 USD, runs on OpenWRT).
I used two methods to be sure my console won’t connect to PlayStation servers, both are set on the router itself, one being custom DNS servers, second being blacklisting PlayStation update server and all it’s subdomains along with Sony telemetry and crash logs.
This ensures your console won’t accidentally download anything without your consent and you don’t have to rely on the PS5 OS and its network settings, blocking telemetry minimizes chances of get banned too.
Let me know if you have any questions!
