What is Alpaca by Kweo?

New here? This is the short version of what Alpaca does and why it’s different.

What it is

Alpaca is family protection for the devices your kids use. It works on iPhone and iPad, Android and Mac, and Windows support is coming soon (currently in closed beta). It helps keep them away from unsafe websites, and it does that on the device itself.

Privacy comes first

Protecting your kids shouldn’t mean handing their data to someone else.

  • Your family’s browsing stays on your devices. The protection runs on the device, so we never see which sites your kids visit.
  • No analytics or crash-reporting tools in the apps. We don’t build a profile of you or your children.
  • We keep very little. Just your email and device IDs, so your account works across your family’s devices.
  • No selling, no advertising. Alpaca is paid for by subscriptions, not by your data.

What makes it simple

  • Protects the whole device. It works in every app, not just one browser, so games, social media, video and browsers are all covered.
  • Works alongside Screen Time and Family Link. Apple and Google already do app limits and bedtimes well. Alpaca adds the web protection.
  • One layer of a bigger picture. Alpaca helps, and talking with your kids helps even more.
  • Made for parents. You shouldn’t need to be technical to use it.

Why it’s different

Most protection tools redirect your internet connection to their own servers, which means your family’s browsing passes through someone else’s systems. Alpaca doesn’t:

  • It runs on the device. The protection happens on the phone, tablet or computer itself.
  • It doesn’t change your IP address or DNS settings. Unless you choose to set that up, your connection works exactly as it did before.
  • It doesn’t clash with network policies. Because it doesn’t reroute your connection, it works with most school, university and workplace networks without getting in the way of their rules.
