I have optimum, no fios or any kind of fiber by me. Coax is my only option. Intermitently, the ping goes to absolute shit. I notice it more at night but it could just be becaues i'm not at home much during the day.
Things i've tried/tested/noticed
-replaced my router
-optimum replaced the cable from the street/box to my house
-ping to router/default gateway is usually 1-2 ms but can hover around 5-10 sometimes but not often.
-i've tried multiple devices, multiple cables, different ports on the router etc. Same issue
-pinging googles dns to test, when its working fine is 25ish ms, when it's an issue sometimes the request times out but most of the time its just ping in the high hundreds/low thousands. Sometimes it jumps around between low hundreds/high tens to the high hundreds.
not sure what else i can do to fix it.
