The smoothest vigilante has arrived in town! I think this is one of the first few action / revenge flicks that I can remember watching back in the days. I remember my dad had this plentiful of Charles Bronson, Steve McQueen collection of tapes everywhere, Death Wish collection is one of them. It is a fun thriller flick to be honest. I really like how Bronson stayed in this type of character (like I know some people just don't like his roles) but I think if I compare his films like "The Mechanic", I think this has the edge in terms of his character development IMO.
May contain spoilers.
Is that Jeff Goldblum? Yeah my reaction really, I saw him as a young with a long hair actor playing as one of those criminals. It's a bummer they only have a slight scene in the first act. I thought he could be a great villain if they utilize his presence. He could be something like Scorpio killer in Dirty Harry. The first act has a harsh (hard to watch) subject. Then you know what to expect next. The plot is kinda predictable really. The fun starts when protagonist (Paul Kersey played by Charles Bronson) decided to do it his own way. I love how he draws that .32-caliber colt revolver. He typically fires two rounds at each street mugger, aiming at center-mass/torso areas, which results in fatal abdominal or chest wounds. And man I missed that gun shot sound they did in the 70's, that mono sound, which is so satisfying.
Is it worth watching? As a fan of the action genre, I'm having a great time. I'm a sucker for old action flicks, good or bad. In fact I have the whole Death Wish set which I can't wait to watch them all again. I recommend the Kino Lorber version, I thought they did a great job on the remaster unlike some other 70's films I've seen. A must see and a must have.
