Hey everyone,
If you have the Disney+ Basic plan, you probably notice ads every few minutes—about four minutes of commercials each hour. If you want to watch without these interruptions, here’s a simple guide to how ad blocking works on Disney+, where it’s possible, and where it isn’t.
1. Blocking ads on PC/Laptop browsers
If you watch Disney+ in a web browser on Windows or Mac, you can block ad scripts without paying extra each month.
- Add a browser ad blocker: Installing an extension like Stands AdBlocker on Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Firefox will block ads and tracking tools when you visit disneyplus.com.
- A quick note: Sometimes Disney adds ads directly into the video stream. Ad blockers work for ads that show up on your device, but to skip all ads—including those built into the video—you’ll need to upgrade to the Disney+ Premium plan ($15.99 per month).
2. Why ad blockers don't work on Smart TVs & Mobile apps
If you use the Disney+ app on a Smart TV (like Roku, Firestick, or Apple TV), on your phone, or on a gaming console (PS5 or Xbox):
- Browser extensions don’t work inside TV or mobile apps because of system restrictions.
- Here’s a workaround: On your phone or tablet, download episodes to watch offline. Then turn on Airplane Mode before playing them. Offline videos won’t load ads from the internet.
Bonus: How to block mature shows from kids
Disney+ doesn’t let you block specific shows by name, but you can easily block mature content:
- Go to Edit Profiles, add a new profile, and turn Kid Profile ON. This will automatically limit content to TV-Y7 or PG.
- For regular profiles, go to Edit Profiles, then Parental Controls, and set the maximum content rating (like PG-13 or TV-14).
- Don’t forget to set a 4-digit Profile Lock PIN on all adult profiles so kids can’t switch to them.
