For .shop, the headline over the last 30 days is turnover rather than just size. New domains appearing in the zone were equal to 7.11% of the current zone, while expired domains dropping out were 8.58%. That puts the new-to-expired ratio at 0.83, so adds did not keep pace with drops in this window.
The arithmetic result is a net loss of 62,941 domains, or -1.45%, bringing .shop to 4,287,127 domains as of 2026-10-21. It still ranks #13 out of 1,597 zones tracked, and the longer view is not uniformly negative: the zone is up 18.88% over 12 months. But in the latest 30-day slice, new registrations were down 10.28% versus the prior 30 days, while expirations were up 1.09%.
For people watching .shop portfolios or DNS load patterns, does this look like routine churn in a large retail-oriented TLD, or a signal that renewal pressure is increasing?
