Where domain hunters compare notes

How many browser fingerprints exist, and how many does Incogniton actually cover?

We get asked this a lot: "how many fingerprints does Incogniton cover?" Fair question. So let's break it down properly: how many fingerprint parameters actually exist according to researchers, and how many of them Incogniton handles.

Quick refresher: what's a digital fingerprint?

In case you forgot: every time you open a website, your browser quietly hands over a bunch of small details, like screen size, timezone, fonts, graphics card and language. None of them identifies you alone, but together they form a pattern unique enough to recognize you again, even without cookies and even after clearing your history. In the AmIUnique study of 150,000+ browsers, about 90% of fingerprints were one of a kind.

How many parameters exist

Researchers count differently. EFF's Cover Your Tracks checks 14 attributes, AmIUnique collects 23, and neither of them sees network-level signals or newer hardware APIs that anti-fraud systems use today.

⬇️ Put everything together and you get 31:

Browser and system 🌐

  1. User Agent

  2. Browser version

  3. Operating system / platform

  4. Language

  5. Timezone

  6. Client Hints (the modern replacement for User Agent)

  7. HTTP headers

  8. Do Not Track

  9. Cookie support

  10. Local storage support

  11. JavaScript support

  12. Supported audio/video formats

Browser and system fingerprint settings

Network πŸ›œ

  1. IP address

  2. WebRTC (can leak your real IP even behind a proxy)

  3. DNS

  4. Geolocation

  5. TLS fingerprint (JA3/JA4)

  6. HTTP/2 fingerprint

Device πŸ’»

  1. Screen resolution

  2. Color depth

  3. Touchscreen support

  4. Media devices (cameras, mics, speakers)

  5. CPU cores

  6. Device memory

Rendering πŸ–ΌοΈ

  1. Canvas

  2. WebGL image

  3. WebGL vendor/renderer (your GPU)

  4. AudioContext

Software πŸ§‘β€πŸ’»

  1. Fonts

  2. Extensions/plugins

  3. AdBlock presence

So how many does Incogniton cover?

24 out of 31 directly βœ…

  • That includes every parameter the AmIUnique research ranks as most identifying (fonts, extensions, User Agent, Canvas), plus the ones anti-fraud systems lean on hardest: IP, WebRTC and WebGL.
  • TLS and HTTP/2 deserve a quick note. Anti-bot systems use these mainly to catch scripts and HTTP libraries that pretend to be a browser but aren't one. Incogniton runs on a real Chromium engine, so its TLS and HTTP/2 fingerprints are genuinely Chrome's, no faking needed. If you're working in a full browser environment like Incogniton, these two simply aren't something you need to think about.

–>>> And here's the thing: the remaining 7 don't need covering at all.

Cookie support (9) is "enabled" for practically everyone. What actually matters is the cookies themselves, and in Incogniton every profile has its own completely isolated cookies, separate from every other profile and from your main browser.

Local storage (10) and JavaScript (11) are one standard technology that's switched on in every real browser and works identically across all profiles. There's nothing unique in them to hide, and turning them off would actually make you stand out.

Audio/video formats (12) are set by the Chromium engine itself, so they already match every other Chrome user on the same version.

Color depth (20) is the same on virtually every modern display.

Touchscreen (21): a desktop profile reports none, just like nearly every real desktop.

AdBlock (31) isn't a trait of your device at all, it depends on whether you install an ad blocker in that profile.

Researchers rate values like these as very low entropy: nobody can tell you apart by them. Faking them wouldn't help, it would hurt. A browser that says it's Chrome but reports codecs Chrome doesn't support looks fake instantly.

So in practice, everything that actually needs covering, Incogniton covers 🀝

Bottom line

Incogniton directly controls 24 of 31 known fingerprint parameters, including every one that actually identifies you, plus network-level protection that browser-based checkers can't even see. The other 7 are values almost everyone shares, which is exactly why they stay real.

A good fingerprint isn't one where everything is faked. It's one that looks like a normal, ordinary person, and that's what every Incogniton profile is built to do.
