Am I wrong about Sukuna’s domain? I think you can make a case for Sukuna always using Malevolent Shrine as an open barrier.

Alright. Before you guys and gals crash out on me like Binx did that one time. Hear me out.

Sorcerers domains have to do alot with their mental landscape or attitude. For example Yuta's domain has the same swords as the one Gojo picked out for him and which he channeled Rika's power through in JJK0. His innate domain would've been different if Gojo picked out a different weapon. Yuji's is his home town, Hakari's is a casino ect.

Sukuna likes to eat people and cook stuff. The main reason he picked up Uraume is because they froze things. They didn't have refrigerant back in the Heian Era, so Uraume was all the more valuable. The slashes of shrine are met to cut up food for him to eat. Cleave cuts things with CE better, while Dismantle cuts up inanimate objects but both can cut regardless.

Another aspect of Sukuna is Divine Flames. This is for cooking food in Sukuna's eyes. He uses his domain to perform this action. The way it works is by using the particals

All of this is wrapped up together nicely in Sukuna's Domain Expansion. The name of the domain is Fukuma Mizushi. This translates to "Malevolent Shrine". But another translation for "Mizushi" is Kitchen. And this isn't inaccurate given that it refers to a Buddhist Shrine or Pantry.

In the domain. Sukuna uses Cleave and Dismantle to cut up his food. Cleave is for things with CE and Dismantle chops up everything else.

Sukuna's fuga attack uses the particles from the obejcts Malevolent Shrine cut up as Fuel for the attack.

What does this have to do with Malevolent Shrine being an open domain? Well quite frankly, everything.

Closed Barrier Domains are closed off to the outside world and more importantly doesn't manifest the area they were at when deployed. Yuji's domain didn't do it, Yuta's domain doesn't do it. And Jogo's and Dagons domain doesn't do it.

But Sukuna domain does do it! Even when he deployed a barrier to prevent escape. The outside buildings and objects were still inside Sukuna's domain. If his domain always worked like a standard closed barrier domain, then dismantle really wouldn't do much as you don't want to destroy the kitchen in order to cook something.

Nowhere does it state that Sukuna ever had a normal closed barrier domain. Given the theme of Sukuna cutting up food and making fuel for the flames. I believe that Sukuna's domain always brought in the outside world, or that Sukuna's Domain was always brought into the world.

Though it's possible that Dismantle wasn't originally part of Sukuna's domain. But nowhere is that stated.
