I've been in IT for over 16 years, working across on-prem, datacenters, Azure and AWS. These days I'm an AWS cloud consultant. I've lurked here for a long time, and over the last few years I've torn down and rebuilt my homelab more times than I can count. I've finally landed on a setup I'm happy with and proud of.
I run it for my family and me, but mostly for me. It's where I learn new things, and honestly, it's just my passion.
A few highlights:
- Everything is infrastructure as code. No snowflake configs and no "how did I set this up again?"
- Documentation lives in Obsidian, written together with Claude Code. I track IPAM, services, per-service docs and changelogs there.
- Custom Claude Code skills keep that documentation up to date. I run them myself when I'm ready. They go through the notes I've written in Obsidian about a change, or pick up what Claude Code did during the session. Then they update the service docs, IPAM, changelogs and, when needed, the infrastructure map.
It's still growing, and I don't think it'll ever really be "done," but this is the first version I'm happy to build on rather than tear down.
And yes, the cable management in the rack is a mess. I know. I just can't be bothered to clean it up properly. 😅
Happy to answer questions or go deeper on any part of the setup!
