I’m using talk to text so I apologize for any grammatical errors.
I’m on our five I’m trying to figure this out with ChatGPT and I’m over it.
I recently bought a used gaming, PC, and I’ve downloaded World of Warcraft and had no issues playing it.
Today I sat down and tried to download snow runner from my game pass onto my PC, and it starts strong than will fluctuate to 0b/s download speed before ultimately shitting the bed and popping the error code above.
I’ve done everything ChatGPT is recommended, including shit. I don’t really understand. See below
Windows 11 / Xbox PC app — downloads repeatedly drop to 0 B/s and eventually fail with 0x87e0000f
I’m trying to troubleshoot an Xbox/Microsoft Store game installation problem on a freshly reset Windows 11 PC.
PC:
i5-12400F
GTX 1070 Ti
32GB DDR4
MSI PRO B760M-P DDR4
Multiple drives, including SSDs
USB 5GHz Wi-Fi adapter
Internet speed tests around 240 Mbps down / 300 Mbps up
0% packet loss on continuous ping
No third-party antivirus; only Microsoft Defender
Problem:
Xbox PC downloads start normally, usually around 200–250 Mbps, then repeatedly drop all the way to 0 B/s. Sometimes they recover temporarily, sometimes they sit at 0 for a while, and eventually the installation fails with:
0x87e0000f
This has happened with SnowRunner and I’m trying to determine whether this is Windows, Xbox/Gaming Services, Delivery Optimization, the network path, or the installation drive.
Things I’ve already tried:
Fresh/reset installation of Windows 11
Updated NVIDIA graphics driver
Xbox app repair
Xbox app reset
Xbox app uninstall/reinstall
Microsoft Store repair
Microsoft Store reset
wsreset
Gaming Services repair/reinstall
Xbox/Gaming Services troubleshooting tools
Checked Windows Firewall; temporarily disabled it during testing
Download initially became more stable around 200–250 Mbps, but eventually dropped to 0 and failed anyway
Checked DNS
xboxlive.com resolves successfully
Tested HTTPS connectivity:
Test-NetConnection xboxlive.com -Port 443
TCP test returned True
Ran continuous ping to 1.1.1.1 while downloading
0% packet loss
~32 ms minimum
~71 ms maximum
~45 ms average
Watched Task Manager while the download stalled
Wi-Fi receive drops to basically nothing when Xbox shows 0 B/s
Disk Active Time stays around 0–1%
So the drive doesn’t appear to be the bottleneck
Checked Delivery Optimization
Service is running
Download status shows caching / bytes downloaded
Advanced settings are set to percentage of measured bandwidth
No additional bandwidth-limit boxes are enabled
Checked Windows services
BITS was stopped/manual
Delivery Optimization was running/automatic
Microsoft Install Service was running/manual
Tried changing installation/download settings
Tried different troubleshooting commands in PowerShell
One AppX-related PowerShell command returned Access Denied, so I stopped messing with permissions rather than changing ownership/security settings
Tested with Windows Firewall disabled
Internet connection itself appears stable during the failure
Download itself is what stops; the entire network connection does not appear to drop
Current step:
I’m currently running Windows 11’s built-in:
Settings → System → Recovery → Fix problems using Windows Update → Reinstall now
This is the repair reinstall that keeps personal files/apps rather than wiping the machine.
If this fails, I’m looking for someone who has personally experienced 0x87e0000f with the download starting normally, repeatedly dropping to 0 B/s, and eventually failing around the middle of the download, and actually fixed it.
I’m especially interested in a solution that isn’t just “reset Gaming Services / reinstall Xbox / run wsreset” because those have already been done.
What actually fixed it for you?
