Right, so you know how FromSoft's almost always had its thing with AC games, right? The corporation that makes blocky, rugged looking parts that focus on kinetic weaponry. Alongside that, those corporations always have a head part that's named [noun/adjective]-EYE. The cyclops head, alongside the rest of the frame, is the "John Armored Core" frame. The frame you'd expect to be on the cover art, and have that be used by a Raven that's really high when it comes to arena rankings.
Now, going through each generation, we find that-
Chrome makes the HD-REDEYE,
Emeraude makes the EHD-NIGHTEYE
Crest makes the CHD-SKYEYE
Now, I haven't gotten to the 4th and 5th gen games… yet. But from what I can see, the ones that look the most like it are the GAN01-SS-H, and the HD-223 Raiko/HB-141.
Regardless, that head part has almost always remained that way for the entirety of the series' lifespan.
Coming into Armored Core VI, we see that Balam's the one that makes the rugged, blocky parts. Let's take a look at their head parts, shall we?
Alright, this part's named "FINDER EYE", that means it must have that look to it, right?
I mean… I can kind of see it looking vaguely similar if I squint my eyes
But what about the other one? The SHADE EYE? That must look more similar to the SKYEYE, right?
What about the heads that do look like that? What are they named then? Let's see….
Alright, obviously, Rather than Balam, the names have been given to RaD's head parts. But still, following the pattern, you'd think that the Melander head would be named FINDER EYE, while Iguazu's custom C3 head would be named SHADE EYE, no?
Alright, now, onto what I actually wanted to say. I'm willing to bet that they were supposed to be named FINDER EYE and SHADE EYE. But during the earliest stages of development, like I'm talking before they were even getting artists to draw concept art, they'd already decided that all of Balam's parts would be named after entomologists.
Which means, that once the blocks started coming together into a fully fleshed-out universe, they were stuck with the entomologist names. No matter how much they wanted, they couldn't change the names from Melander.
Another thing that came to mind, is that Elcano parts would've fit right at home with Balam. Crest, other than making rugged parts, also made parts that were genuine works of art. But if they did that, the RLF would've gotten shafted even more by the corporations than they already had.
Or it could've been straight pointless, and I just typed out like, seven paragraphs for nothing.
