My brother and I launched Lathe on Show HN on Sunday. It's hosting where your app, Postgres and auth run together on your own machine, from $15/mo flat.
What happened: – 3 points, zero comments. The post never left /newest. – Our first comment explaining the product got auto-flagged by HN's filter within seconds. We emailed the mods and heard nothing. – I tried to post it on Reddit too. It got auto-removed because I didn't have enough karma in that sub.
What I think went wrong: we pitched it like infra. Postgres, Redis, NATS, a guest kernel. The people we built it for are vibe coders. Their AI wrote the app in an hour and they don't want to learn Linux or DNS to ship it. A feature list means nothing to them.
What worked instead: DMing people one by one. Slow, but it's where the real conversations came from.
What's next: – Rewrite the homepage around "your AI built it, one push and it's live" – Talk to builders every day, not once on launch day – A Product Hunt launch later this fall, once a billing migration is done
If you've shipped something with Cursor or Claude Code: where did you get stuck on deploy?
