Where domain hunters compare notes

I’m spending €1,000 on Codex to see if one person can build a real VPN service across 20 countries

I want to run a pretty simple experiment: spend around €1,000 purely on Codex usage and see how far I can get building a real VPN product with AI doing most of the coding, debugging and refactoring

I’m not planning to rent 20 VPS servers. I know people in around 20 different countries whose PCs are already online 24/7, and some of them also have spare machines. The idea is to use those computers as VPN nodes and exit points instead of paying for infrastructure in every country.

Eventually I want locations like Germany, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, China and a bunch of other countries across Europe and beyond.

The goal is to build an actual product, not just a collection of WireGuard configs. I want a Windows client, login, automatic device registration, a control plane/backend, automatic peer provisioning, country selection, reconnect, kill switch, connection status, traffic stats and a proper installer. Ideally the user experience is simple install my VPN, log in, choose a country and press Connect.

The first working version already exists. I currently have a Germany node running on my PC, external clients can connect to it, traffic exits through the German IP, and I already have a control plane with a database, automatic VPN IP allocation, automatic peer creation and revocation, authentication and real handshake, DNS and HTTPS integration tests

The €1,000 budget is only for Codex. There will obviously be separate costs for things like the website, domain, certificates and anything else I end up needing, but I’m deliberately trying to avoid paying for 20 VPS locations.

What I want to find out is whether one person, using a strong coding agent heavily, can turn this into a usable VPN product across 20 countries without the codebase eventually turning into an unmaintainable mess.

Where do you think I’m most likely to hit the wall security, networking, managing remote home nodes, Windows reliability, NAT/CGNAT, maintainability, or something else?

If people are interested, I can post updates after each major milestone and include how much Codex usage each stage consumed, what broke and what had to be rewritten manually
