Hey everyone. As many of you know, following the recent tragic school shootings, the government is cracking down hard. The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), through the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), has ordered local ISPs (PLDT, Globe, Smart, Converge, etc.) to start blocking websites.
According to the PNP/CICC, they coordinated directly with the NTC "for the blocking of certain websites espousing real-world violence and grooming," and the NTC directed ISPs to restrict access. The CICC has also given platforms like Reddit and Discord a 24-hour deadline to comply with new safety demands, threatening to have the NTC block them if they don't.
This is a massive issue touching on censorship and internet freedom, with Reddit and Discord being directly targeted by these ISP blocks. Since a lot of users are suddenly getting cut off from both platforms, the sub is starting to get flooded. To keep things organized, all discussion, venting, and status updates about the Reddit and Discord outages need to go here.
Any new posts about the blocks outside this megathread will be deleted to prevent spam.
📌 What's Happening?
- ISPs have started actively rolling out DNS-level blocks on domains flagged by the CICC. Following the government's 24-hour ultimatum, tons of users are now reporting that both Reddit and Discord are suddenly completely unreachable and just throwing up a standard ISP block page.
- Do NOT share, ask for, or link to ANY videos, photos, or manifestos related to the recent school shootings. We are dead serious about this. Doing so will result in an immediate, permanent ban from this subreddit, NO WARNINGS, NO APPEALS.
🛠️ How to Bypass the Block (DNS over HTTPS/TLS)
Right now, the blocks are simple DNS-level filtering (which is typical for the Philippines). You can easily bypass this by changing your DNS settings to use an alternative DNS.
- Android (Private DNS): Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Private DNS. Select "Private DNS provider hostname" and enter dns.google or one.one.one.one
- Windows 11: Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi (or Ethernet) > Hardware properties. Next to "DNS server assignment," click Edit. Change to Manual, turn on IPv4, enter 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1, and set "DNS over HTTPS" to On.
- iOS: Go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Tap the "i" next to your network. Scroll down to Configure DNS, select Manual, delete the existing entries, and add 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1. (For full system-wide encrypted DNS, download the 1^4 app by Cloudflare).
- Mac: Go to System Settings > Network > Wi-Fi (or Ethernet) > Details… > DNS. Click the "+" to add 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1.
- Browser Level: Most modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave) have a "Secure DNS" or "DNS over HTTPS" setting in their privacy/security menus. Turn this on and select Google, Cloudflare, or Quad9.
Right now, you don't need encrypted DNS. Just changing your standard DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) works fine.
Why? Philippine ISPs are doing the bare minimum by only censoring their default servers. To stop you from using a custom DNS, they would have to set up a "Transparent DNS Proxy" to actively intercept your requests redirecting and forcing you to use their own DNS. They haven't done this yet, so a simple DNS swap gets you through.
Still, using encrypted DNS (like the guide above) is highly recommended to future-proof your connection in case the ISPs get stricter later.
⁉️ Why we're sharing how to bypass this
Blanket blocking entire platforms like Reddit and Discord punishes millions of ordinary people, students, developers, work teams, and communities who rely on these tools every day for school, work, and staying connected. Shutting down entire public forums instead of addressing specific bad actors is massive overreach that causes huge collateral damage.
Changing your DNS to neutral resolvers like Cloudflare or Google is a standard privacy practice. We’re sharing this so people can continue their normal daily routines without interruption. That said, keeping these platforms accessible does not change our zero-tolerance stance: anyone using this access to view, share, or request violent material or manifestos will be banned immediately.
