Where domain hunters compare notes

Homedex: a read-only inventory of what runs where on my home server (Docker, SSH hosts, Traefik/Caddy/NPM/nginx, Tailscale), MIT

My notes on my own server were always out of date. I'd add a container or change a proxy route, and a month later I couldn't say which domain went to which container, which ports were free, or when a cert was due.

So I built Homedex. It reads what's actually running and keeps the record:

  • containers and ports from Docker (Podman works too)
  • plain Linux boxes over SSH (docker ps and ss), so bare-metal services show up
  • Traefik, Caddy, Nginx Proxy Manager, and as of this week plain nginx and SWAG config files, joined to the container behind each domain, with dead routes flagged
  • Tailscale devices, so a route pointing at a tailnet name still resolves to the right container
  • cert and domain expiry, and a change feed of what moved between scans

It only reads. The default compose reaches the Docker socket through a socket proxy with POST disabled, container env vars are never read, there's no telemetry, and the UI stays on localhost unless you set HOMEDEX_BIND=0.0.0.0.

Limits: it's young (v0.1.5, one maintainer). It isn't a monitor or a network map. A host added through both Docker and SSH lists its containers twice.

One Go binary with the UI built in, or a ~12MB image for amd64/arm64/armv7. SQLite.
