We've been building an email infrastructure product called Mailofly, and one thing we've learned is that sending an email is the easy part.
The difficult part is everything around it:
- Deliverability
- DNS configuration
- Bounce handling
- Delivery tracking
- Webhooks
- Logs
- Scaling
- Developer experience
We're currently working on making that infrastructure easier for SaaS developers to use through API and SMTP.
One thing I'm trying to understand now is distribution.
Developers already have established options like SES, SendGrid, Mailgun and Resend, so getting someone to even try another provider is difficult.
For those building SaaS/devtools:
What usually makes you try a new infrastructure provider?
Price? Developer experience? Reliability? Migration? Something else?
I'm going to share our progress and lessons as we continue building.
