Description:
InfraSim is a game about designing cloud systems and then surviving what
happens to them. You lay out an architecture on a canvas using generic
primitives, DNS, CDN, load balancer, compute, cache, database, queue and
object storage, then you deploy it and simulated traffic starts flowing
through the graph. Metrics move, costs accrue, and sooner or later a tier
saturates and something fails. Incidents fire while the clock is running and
you have to work out which tier went first and repair it live. Every run,
pass or fail, ends in a postmortem that ranks what actually went wrong and
why, because a failure you cannot diagnose is just a loss screen.
There are 44 levels across seven chapters, a daily challenge with a
leaderboard, an endless survival mode driven by an incident director, and a
free-form sandbox. The simulation is deterministic from a seed, so a given
run always plays out identically, and it models queueing rather than a simple
pass or fail threshold, which means four small instances and one large
instance of the same total capacity behave differently, the way they do in
real life.
Free to Play Status:
* [x] Free to play
* [ ] Demo/Key available
* [ ] Paid (Allowed only on Tuesdays with [TT] in the title)
Free covers the tutorial, the first twelve levels, the daily challenge,
survival runs and the full reference encyclopedia. There is an optional Pro
subscription for the remaining chapters. No ads anywhere, and none planned.
Involvement: Solo developer. I built all of it, the simulation engine, the
game, the content and the art.
What I would most like feedback on is the difficulty curve in the first four
levels. I think it ramps too gently and I would rather hear that from people
who play a lot of these.
