Recurring TVAPP-00244 error with Xfinity Stream on Apple TV — anyone else?
I'm repeatedly getting “Playback Stream Error: TVAPP-00244” when using the Xfinity Stream app on my Apple TV. I'm trying to determine whether this is a known Xfinity/tvOS problem.
Setup:
- Apple TV 4K
- tvOS 27, fully updated
- Xfinity Stream app, fully updated
- Xfinity Internet
- Netgear CM1000v2 customer-owned cable modem
- TP-Link Archer BE400 main router
- TP-Link BE6500 EasyMesh satellite
- Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1 / 1.0.0.1)
- WPA2/WPA3 AES
- Other Apple TV streaming apps and Internet access generally work normally
- Xfinity Stream also works on my iPad/iPhone on the same home network
Problem:
Xfinity Stream will open normally, but when I try to play a live channel I intermittently receive TVAPP-00244 and playback fails. This has been a recurring problem rather than a one-time outage.
The particularly interesting part is that force-quitting the Xfinity Stream app on the Apple TV and reopening it can restore playback without rebooting the Apple TV, modem, router, or mesh network.
That makes me suspect an Xfinity Stream session/authentication/DRM or app-suspend/resume problem under tvOS, rather than a basic Internet or Wi-Fi problem.
I've already done the usual troubleshooting: restarting devices, verifying software/app updates, and checking that the rest of the network and streaming services are functioning.
At this point I'm trying to determine whether this is a known Xfinity Stream Apple TV bug and whether Xfinity engineering is actually tracking it. I'd rather not start changing router, DNS, mesh, or Wi-Fi settings when the evidence seems to point to the Stream app itself. Perhaps there is another version update coming that will magically fix this problem? I mean, one can hope right? 😀
