Where domain hunters compare notes

Should I use Cloudflare Tunnel?

Hi, I'm relatively new to the world of self-hosting, and I recently set up my own private server running Jellyfin and several other services.

Since I use some of them, especially Jellyfin, quite often when I'm away from home, I was wondering what would be the most convenient and secure way to access them remotely: using Cloudflare Tunnel or a service like Tailscale.

At the moment, I'm using Tailscale together with a combination of Caddy and AdGuard, but it doesn't always work as reliably as I'd like. Because of this, I've been considering whether using a free domain through something like DuckDNS together with Cloudflare Tunnel might make remote access easier and more reliable to manage.

My main concern, however, is security. I don't want to accidentally expose my services to the public Internet and allow anyone to access them.

What would you recommend in this situation? And more importantly, what are the main risks and security considerations I should be aware of?
