Trying to not make this sound like a rant as I need genuine advice. Got laid off last year in October in the arlington/dc area. In my late 20s, almost 10 years of sys admin / vip support work at various gov orgs, hospitals, etc, little cloud little security exp here and there. Got a clearance, the middle one. Associates degree in cyber. Have a 3 year old. I am out of money. I've been applying non stop in the DC area AND other areas, when I had a bit more cash to relocate if needed. I'm out of money, I'm out of time. I cannot get hired anywhere. What I'm assuming happened is after the layoffs happened, more qualified people than me hit the market, and I am less desirable. Fine, that's a free market for you, but I can't find work anywhere, I've applied outside my industry at this point as well as some money is obviously better than no money. Out of the thousand+ job apps I've sent in since last year, either they all close, or I am not referred to hiring managers for whatever reason. I've tried multiple resume's, have had it reviewed by people, they say it looks fine. I have letters of recommendation. I've only had 2 interviews, it was for jobs that recruiters actually reached out to me for, and then I was told that they are looking for SME level in "X" field. Think like DNS Sec Engi position. Like that was pretty clear from my resume I am not a 10 year DNS Sec engineer guy, not sure why all that time was wasted but definitely tried my best in interview etc. Didn't pan out clearly. Anyways. I'm screwed. Sorry for the rant. Unless I am just a dud, IT might be a bad career to be in right now.
