Took over a site for a friend of a friend. No handover, no docs, just a gmail account with a hosting confirmation in it and the phrase "its on bluehost i think".
Things that ate the time:
\- the bluehost login wordpress flow goes through their portal now, so /wp-admin on the domain redirected into their dashboard and I assumed the install was broken
\- the account had two sites on it and the primary domain in the portal was not the domain the client acutally uses
\- password reset went to an email nobody has access to any more, so it ended up being a wp-cli user update over ssh
\- ssh is not on by default and turning it on is buried three screens deep
None of this is bluehost being uniquely bad, every host has a portal now and every portal hides wp-admin behind it. But if you inherit a site, get the host login before you go looking for the wordpress login, otherwise you are just guessing at a url. I keep a text file per client now with the host, the panel url and where dns actualy resolves, which sounds obvious and is exactly the thing i skipped for eight years becuase i assumed i would remember. anyway
