Where domain hunters compare notes

How I got accepted into Microsoft for Startups ($5k unlocked, scaling up to $150,000 in credits) with just an MVP and no referral — Exact Blueprint

Got approved for Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub completely on my own—no incorporated entity, no VC backing, and no referral code needed.

I unlocked the initial $5,000 tier, and the program scales up to $150,000 in total Azure credits as you hit development and traction milestones.

A lot of devs think you need a fully functional, revenue-generating SaaS just to get in the door, but that is not true. Here is the exact blueprint I followed:

1. Pick a clear, practical problem

Don’t overcomplicate it. Find an everyday pain point and brainstorm a simple MVP solution around it.

2. Build a working demo / Core Screens

Your product does NOT need to be 100% finished. Just build the core functionality or key landing/dashboard screens. You can use modern AI-assisted IDEs (VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.) to set this up quickly. Most of these tools can even push your repository directly to GitHub with an access token.

3. Buy a domain & set up a business email (Crucial)

This is where most applications get rejected. Buy a cheap domain matching your project name and set up a custom business email (e.g., contact@yourstartup.com). Applying with a generic u/.gmail.com drops your credibility significantly; a custom domain email signals a legit venture.

4. Deploy for free

Push your code to GitHub, link the repository to Vercel (completely free tier), and attach your custom domain. If you haven't configured DNS before, there are quick 2-minute YouTube tutorials showing the exact records to add.

5. Apply directly on Founders Hub

Submit your application on the Founders Hub Portal with your live site link, custom domain email, and a clean 2–3 sentence description of your project.

How the Credits Work:

You start with $5,000 in Azure credits right after approval. As you consume credits, deploy infrastructure, and update your product progress, you unlock higher tiers ($25k, $50k, all the way up to $150,000 total).

Happy to answer any questions in the comments if anyone is stuck setting this up!
