How to best set up AdGuard for iOS?

I already have Safari Protection all set up to my liking, but I'm confused about how DNS filtering works in the app. If I use NextDNS or AdGuard DNS, do I still need DNS filtering? I also see a section to add a DNS server. It seems like I can also add a filter list. What's the point or what should I do if I use NextDNS?
