Where domain hunters compare notes

web3s.domains — a catalogue of 36 Web3 domain endings, and what each one is actually for

Web3 domain names get sold with a lot of noise and very little explanation. Providers list their endings alphabetically, which tells you nothing about whether .4gamers suits you better than .4player. I built the reference I wanted while trying to figure that out.

Every ending gets its own page: what it is for, who tends to register under it, four example addresses with the reason someone would want each one, and six questions with answers — four written specifically for that ending. There is also a glossary of the terms that trip people up (minting, records, resolver, punycode, seed phrase) and pages on what buying costs, including the bit most sites skip: if you lose the wallet, nobody can recover the name.

It is not a registrar and there is no search box. You read about the endings here, then follow the link to the provider that operates them. Those links are affiliate links, disclosed on every page.

Thirteen of the endings are non-Latin — Arabic, Hebrew, Yiddish, Bengali, Hindi, Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese — with examples written in their own scripts rather than transliterated. Four pages are written natively in Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian and Japanese.
