My suggestion is to make it possible for the Bedrock Edition on console devices to connect to custom servers.
My girlfriend and I recently started playing Minecraft Bedrock Edition together, and we're having a great time with it so far. I currently host the world on my laptop, and she connects to me from her Switch. We recently ran into an issue where she wanted to play on the world without me but wasn't able to. We would then have to boot up my computer and log into the world so she could connect. This minor inconvenience sparked the idea for me to host the world on our home server so that my character doesn't need to idle in our dirt mansion when she wants to play without me.
Come to find out, console versions of the game do not allow connections to custom servers. 🙁
I checked around online and was only able to find BedrockConnect and BedrockTogether as solutions to my problem, both of which are mobile apps that use your phone as a DNS server to redirect you to whichever server you choose to connect to. While I'm sure both of these work fine, I didn't want to be reliant on a third-party app on my phone just to be able to connect to our server.
This led me to the realization that I could make a DIY solution that mimics what those apps are doing. Using the built-in custom DNS feature on our network's Pi-hole, I was able to redirect one of the featured Creator Servers to my own personal IP address, and that seemed to do the trick. While it's not a perfect solution, it works for us.
