The Fall of Irtara

This is a Narrator-approved guest narration by u/DapperCardiologist25.

Initial Attack

“Monsogoth marches to war, Your Majesty. One hundred and eighty-two men.”

Valkoth, lieutenant of the Dark Forces, called out to his liege, Lord Malik.

“Good. Estria has been good to us. Let us return the favor.”

Malik turned toward his assembled commanders
.
“We march on Irtara within a fortnight.”

The great host of Monsogoth crossed the border expecting war. Instead, they found a land already in ruin.

Crops had been burned, villages abandoned or destroyed. Women and children wandered the roads, crying and begging the passing soldiers for food. Civil wars are rarely pretty, especially when one side is under the influence of a powerful talisman.

But not everyone in Irtara had lost hope.

A large army of more than one hundred men, still loyal to Prince Elekas, marched out to meet the invading force.

The fighting was fierce.

The Estrians fought bravely, holding their ground against the soldiers and creatures of Monsogoth. Again and again they pushed back against the advancing host, determined to defend what remained of their homeland.

But ultimately, they were no match for Monsogoth.

Their Prince was on the other side of the kingdom. No reinforcements were coming, and as their numbers dwindled, the remaining Estrians realized there was little left to fight for.

They surrendered.

Monsogoth had won, but the victory had come at a heavy price.

Irtara had fallen.
