Okay, I'm honestly close to some kind of mental break. I'm singlehandedly trying to save a peer-reviewed journal — and my livelihood — which cannot continue to exist without creating a new site. I’m simply and totally overwhelmed even at the end stage. I have no clue what I’m doing despite doing so much research and speaking to so many people.
ORIGINAL PROBLEM/THOUGHTS FROM A FEW DAYS AGO:
I got Greengeeks hosting with a temporary domain.
My site is finished.
Today I did better search replace to get wp-posts and wp-postsmeta to be the domain I will eventually have, although because I avoided wp-options my pages are still the temp URL. I avoided wp-options because it would lock me out if I changed this since I've yet to do DNS switch from Kualo to Greengeeks.
The only thing I need to do now is DNS switch via GreenGeeks to point ecologicalcitizen.net to greengeeks nameservers…
And yet I realised something paradoxical. Changing DNS to greengeeks will clearly do something, but I'm not sure what. The problem is this: how can I log into wp-admin? What address would it be? I've avoided changing my WP site address and URL in general settings because that would lock me out right now… But DNS is going to point the servers to GreenGeeks. So I'm going to have a weird situation where my temp domain needs to stay as my temp domain and yet I'm also going to be changing DNS. I have no clue if I'll be able to login via ecologicalcitizen.net/wp-admin or it'll still be my temp domain. I need to change my site address in WP after DNS switch, but I don't even know what the URL would be or if either of them would work. This is impossible.
TODAY:
I did the DNS switch from Kualo to GreenGeeks. It's currently propagating, I think.
But I realised a problem.
My site says: “[temp].myecosite.com Ecosite Pro 50”
But it’s ecologicalcitizen.net under domain names.
And yet in cPanel it says the main domain is “[temp].myecosite.com”, which is linked to public_html.
I basically have no clue what I’m doing anywhere. I thought I was just going to change DNS, get SSL for ecologicalcitizen.net and then login to WP and change general site address and URL toe ecologicalcitizen.
Everything is completely out of sync.
Apparently I need to add a new domain in cPanel but that makes no sense to me and is too dangerous.
It's either Reddit help or I'm forced to speak with shit AI or a moronic tech support worker from the other side of the planet who doesn't understand English.
Please help.
