Hey everyone,
I’m in a bit of a dilemma. I love using Pi-hole for local privacy monitoring, domain logs, and pairing it with Unbound. Having total network control is great.
However, especially on mobile devices (smartphones/tablets), switching to the dedicated AG upstream DNS blocks roughly 80% more ads than my local Pi-hole setup does. On desktop it's decent, but mobile browsing and apps are leaking way too many ads.
Here are the active blocklists currently enabled on my setup:
- HaGeZi Multi PRO
- Standard Filter List 1
- HaGeZi Popups/PWA
- CNAME Trackers List
(I also have EasyPrivacy disabled for testing).
Even with HaGeZi Pro active, mobile ads are still slipping through:
- Is AG DNS doing something specific for mobile traffic (like CNAME uncloaking, handling DoH/DoT bypasses, or IPv6 leaks) that Pi-hole misses out of the box?
- What blocklists, regex rules, or settings are you using to lock down mobile ad leaks without breaking apps?
Would love to hear how you tuned your setup to get AG-level blocking on mobile without giving up local Unbound and logging!
