Received Amazon AWS Data Centre Linux & HW Engineer Online Assessment – Need Preparation Advice

Hi everyone,

I recently received an online assessment invitation from Amazon for the Data Centre Linux & HW Engineer, Data Center Operations role in Hyderabad (Job ID: 10498164).

This is my first Amazon assessment, and I want to prepare properly before starting it. The email says the assessment takes around 40+ minutes and needs to be completed within two weeks.

My background:

  • ~1 year of production IT infrastructure/support experience
  • Linux and Windows troubleshooting
  • RAM replacement and hardware troubleshooting
  • PC/equipment rack installation and router mounting
  • Network cabling and troubleshooting
  • TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN basics
  • AWS EC2, VPC, ALB, CloudWatch
  • Bash/PowerShell
  • Active Directory
  • Zabbix monitoring

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who has recently taken the AWS/Amazon Data Center Operations / Linux & Hardware assessment, especially:

  1. What sections or types of questions should I expect?
  2. Is it mainly technical questions, work scenarios, work-style questions, or a combination?
  3. Which topics should I prioritize — Linux, hardware, networking, troubleshooting, AWS, or Amazon Leadership Principles?
  4. How difficult is the assessment compared with the actual technical interview?
  5. How would you recommend preparing in the few days before taking it?
  6. Are there any common mistakes I should avoid?

I'm not looking for actual assessment questions or answers, just recent candidate experiences and preparation advice.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can share their experience!
