Where domain hunters compare notes

[4 YoE, Non-IT Worker, Systems Administrator, United States]

Hey guys, I was laid off in late October 2025 after about 4.5 years with the same company. I started as an IT contractor and eventually moved into systems and security operations. I was making over 75k a year.

I've been trying to get back into IT since then and I'm having a much harder time than I expected. I've had a few recruiter conversations and referrals that sounded promising, but a lot of them went nowhere or I ended up getting ghosted. The biggest problem is that I'm barely getting interviews.

I've tracked 128 applications so far and have only had 3 actual interviews.

I'm working a non-IT job right now just to keep money coming in, and it's pretty exhausting. I don't really want to turn this into a vent post or get into how defeated I've been feeling on a regular basis, but it's rough af right now. I'm trying to figure out if there's something wrong with how I'm presenting my experience or if I'm targeting the wrong jobs.

The resume attached is my master resume. I don't send this exact version to every job. I tailor my resume for the role, and I already have separate versions for systems/infrastructure, Azure/cloud, IAM, support, and implementation roles.

I would really appreciate honest feedback. Does my experience come across clearly? Does the resume make me look too broad, too junior, or too support-heavy? Are there roles you think I should be targeting that I might be overlooking? If there's something here that would make you pass on me, please tell me.

Any advice would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys, sincerely.
