Is Cybersecurity still worth in 2026? 💻

Some people are afraid of getting into cybersecurity because there’s so much to learn: networking, Windows/Linux, programming and scripting, web security, and much more.

If you really want to get into cybersecurity, start with the fundamentals.

Don’t make the same mistake I did by jumping straight into tools from GitHub or Kali Linux. It’s easy to spend a lot of time learning tools without actually understanding what’s happening underneath.

Start simple:

  1. 🌐 Learn networking first — TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, ports, protocols, etc.
  2. 🐧 Learn operating systems — especially Linux and Windows.
  3. 💻 Learn programming & scripting — Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.
  4. 🔐 Then move into cybersecurity — web security, authentication, vulnerabilities, cryptography, SOC, pentesting, and so on.

You don’t need to learn everything at once.

Build the foundation first, then learn the tools. It will make cybersecurity much easier to understand in the long run.

What did you learn first when you started cybersecurity?
