there must be someplace in unifi controller where this bad DNS/DHCP assignment was maintened but I could not find it… resolved via a backdoor DIY solution.
Summary. PC's lost SMB (Netbios) names access to Synology server. NSLookup on each Pc point to the Unfi Gateway as the assigning server and the IP attached to the synology was wrong because I mistakenly inserted the Lan cable into port 4 vs1 (the latter MAC address gets a static Ip assignment). Although I did find an entry (Offline) in the Devices list for te bad IP address. Doing a Remove did not help the situation; nslookup on PC still pointed to that address.
