[FW 5.01] Got “An update is available” prompt on shutdown after messing with network/DNS settings. Should I worry & how to fix permanently?

Hi everyone,

I need some quick advice regarding a system update prompt on my PS5.

My Setup:

  • Model: PS5 Fat (Disc)
  • Firmware: 5.01
  • Homebrew: etaHEN / nanoDNS installed

What happened: I was testing network transfer tools and ended up switching back and forth between Wi-Fi SSIDs and LAN cable connections. During this, I also toggled the 127.0.0.1 DNS setting on and off a few times.

When I went to turn off the console, a prompt popped up saying "An update is available for system software…". I chose Turn Off PS5 (did NOT click update), but I'm worried it might have downloaded the update file in the background while DNS was off.

My questions:

  1. Should I be worried? Is the update file already cached on my internal storage?
  2. How do I safely delete/clear this pending update file so the prompt goes away?
  3. What is the current best method to completely block updates on FW 5.01, especially when switching between LAN and Wi-Fi?

Thanks in advance for the help!
