I saw that I can run Adguard Home right on the OpenWRT One router and that seemed like an attractive proposition. One device, no need for separate appliance, related cabling, switch port, extra power outlet etc.
So I got the router and managed to configure it to pass Internet to all my devices. Then I went to install Adguard Home and was instantly presented with two conflicts related to IP ports. One was easy to solve with little googling, namely the port to serve the control UI.
The other though I still have not solved after a few hours of searching and following directions. It's the DNS and DHCP configuration. A lot of outdated info and conflicting suggestions out there. I ended up temporarily removing AdGuard Home from the router because my wife got tired of waiting for the TV streaming to come back.
There is a DNS and DHCP service running on the router by default and then separately on the AdGuard Home once installed and they conflict.
Why can't the initial setup configure the services as to avoid the conflict and vaguely leaves it to the end user? By the way, the suggestion during the AdGuard install is to look at two services that are not really the problem. It's apparently the dnsmasq that needs to be modified. But I still don't have it working because I did not find a working procedure and it's late. So, I'll give it a shot again tomorrow.
