Used to completely ignore Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 app because I treated it like a half baked VPN, no location spoofing, no server switching and it slows down raw download speeds on home WiFi pretty heavily.
Recently though, it’s basically become a glorified network toggle for me. Every once in a while, a random site just refuses to load on public WiFi or behind a weird ISP routing setup. Instead of clearing browser cache or messing around in Android's Private DNS menu which forces you to copy/paste hostnames, toggling WARP on directly from the notification shade fixes the routing 9 times out of 10.
It routes around whatever DNS/routing hangup is happening, lets me grab the page and then I just tap it back off.
It does feel like people constantly misunderstand what WARP actually is, though. It gets marketed alongside traditional VPNs but without location controls or full privacy features, it’s really just encrypted routing with malware/DNS filtering bolted on.
Do you guys bother keeping lightweight tools like this pinned in your Quick Settings or do you just route everything through a full self hosted/paid VPN wireguard tunnel 24/7?
