Where domain hunters compare notes

PFSense DNS not working on LAN with TrueNAS server and SMB shares. Pls help.

I am running a Netgate 3100 with PFsense… i had it setup to use DNS to give an internal domain name to my network (tomato.lan) and a host name to my TrueNAS scale server running a couple of SMB shares (slab) so for a couple of days i accessed my SMB shares at SMB://slab.tomato.lan but then it just stopped working and i had not changed anything!

I was also able to connect to my TrueNAS server to manage it at (https://slab.tomato.lan)

I can still access the SMB shares/and the server management interface but now only by IP address…. (192.168.0.10) assigned by the PFsense box.

I even tried disabling mDNS and tried specifying a hostname on the trueNAS server doubling up the one assigned in PFsense (slab) and checking the box "Inherit domain from DHCP" on my trueNAS server….

On a potentially related note, I can't seem to add SMB shares into Plex running on either my laptop or the trueNAS server….

I am still learning and any help folks could give or to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance 😊💚
