Your home router still uses its factory default admin password. That’s an open door.

Most routers ship with a generic username and password like "admin/admin" or "root/1234". Attackers scan for these credentials constantly — they can get in, change your DNS settings, or even lock you out.

Flip your router over, find the IP address (often 192.168.1.1), type it into a browser, log in with the default credentials, and look for an "Administration" or "System" tab. Change that password to something long and unique.

That single change closes one of the most common entry points for home network breaches. Takes less than a minute and works on every consumer router made.
