AI finally got me to start building apps

I’ve wanted to build apps since the iOS 9 days.
I procrastinated for years.

Then the AI boom happened. I started seeing YouTube videos of people building apps in days, launching them, and sometimes making thousands of dollars a month.

I thought, okay… maybe this is finally my chance.
So I started building.

And one of the first things I learned is that AI definitely did not make this as easy as YouTube makes it look 😂

AI hallucinates.
It writes sloppy code.
It confidently builds things that don’t actually work.
I’ve had to tell it to go back, test its own work, fix things, then sometimes fix the fix.

Design is another rabbit hole. I thought I could just say “make this look beautiful” and get a great app. Nope. I’m still spending hours looking through Dribbble, Mobbin and other apps trying to understand what actually makes an app feel polished.

Then there’s all the stuff I never really thought about before starting.

Domains.
Privacy policies.
Banking APIs.
App Store rules.
Subscriptions.

Setting up an actual company so I can publish under a business name instead of my personal name.

And I haven’t even launched yet.

I still have 0 users because there isn’t a public app to use yet.

But after years of saying “I’m going to build an app someday,” I’m finally actually doing it.

I think my biggest lesson so far is that AI dramatically lowered the barrier to building software.
It did not remove the work.

I’m going to keep sharing what I learn while I try to get from an unfinished app and 0 users to actually launching something people want.
