The main Domains sub is no longer a place for free speech. The moderation team actively protects select registrars and bans anyone who criticizes predatory registry price hikes. Identity Digital Increasing Prices Again… some by 300%!
Yeah its bullshit! I had no idea they could so easily do this! I just bought a .global for $20 now its $85 a year? Its a hobby, I don't want to pay frikn $85/year its why I chose one that was only $20.. frikn greedy biches!
I learned Donuts Inc. rebranded to Identity Digital in 2022, backed by Equity Capitol, own allot of TLD's. They are not governed by ICANN contracts which sets price caps and predictable increases. They can set whatever prices they want, when they want without warning!
I am aware domain prices can increase because I own a few. But I never had one jump over 300%! Had I been aware of this I would have never bought it! I haven't started using it yet so I can change, but the .global really fit the brand and the name of the domain really well so I hate having to change it!
I will NOT buy a TLD owned by these greedy pricks ever again! To avoid being screwed in the future simply don't buy any TLD's they own. Here is the list of the ones I found they do own and can at will increase pricing on without waring:

Private companies are there to make profit. They have to cover their expenses. The annual fees to run a TLD are quite high.
Get a .com which is heavily regulated comparing to let's say .global
Sounds like a slug begging for salt. It is "exploitative" in every way. Domain names are sold to people. They are meant to serve people and not designed to extract unreasonable profits. And if .com has a reasonable price and has been running "profitably" for decades, these new registries can too. But no, they are greedy and love exploiting peoples with brutal price hikes after grabbing domain name extensions that people start using. ICANN seems to be in bed with such providers and does not seem to care about people, businesses or fair market practices.

No one said private companies have to serve people. No business needs to care about people or fairness.

It takes a special kind of ignorance to blindly defend corporate extortion while accusing others of entitlement.
Yes, we do know their expenses. The ICANN contracts are public. The registry for .global pays the exact same $25K annual base fee as .com.
The operational costs aren't forcing these price hikes, the lust for profit margins are, solely because the registry operates an unregulated monopoly over its specific extension.
Your "just get a .com" argument proves you have zero concept of business operations. Once a company builds its SEO, marketing, and client trust on a domain, abandoning it is a massive, costly disruption.
Registries for new gTLDs rely entirely on this. They lure businesses in with normal prices, wait until they are fully dependent on the URL, and then jack up the fees because they know the business can't afford the damage of rebranding.
Defending a hostage-pricing model because "businesses don't need to care about people" just makes you a proud apologist for predatory market practices. God help this sub if people like you run it.
That sucks.
I'd drop it and look for another domain in a regular TLD. You now .COM .NET and .ORG.
Or maybe use a country domain extension.

All those are from the last round of TLDs or so. they aren't under any cap for pricing.
They are not greedy as any business has every right for a profit. Get a .com or your country's cctld.
You are not entitled to any TLD. That so call 300% jump, could of been the first year discount so many registrars do and when renewal for year 2 comes up, it's back to regular pricing.
