Hi, quick question about domains for side projects

I have a couple little apps and landing pages that I spin up and kill pretty often, and im starting to feel dumb paying full price renewals on a bunch of random .coms just to test ideas. I care about easy dns, decent privacy, and not getting hit with annoying upsells every time I touch my domain.

For folks who run small projects or experiments, where do you usually buy and park your domains, and has it been chill over a few years of renewals and transfers? Any hints?
