Beryl AX Firmware 4.11.0 beta released

Just when I was so happy with the 4.9 stable firmware, GL.iNet go and release the 4.11.0 beta firmware just a day later. I downloaded and installed it on my Beryl AX and have to say it is such an improvement in interface and has been incredibly stable. Love the new DNS option the security check etc. It seems the devs are on a roll.

If you decide to download and install the beta firmware, remember that it is beta and might have bugs. I have been running it extensively for a day and it is flawless so far. I mentioned earlier that the new 4.9.0 stable firmware has introduced native ControlD encryption for premium accounts (btw, Windscribe VPN, the sister company of ControlD is currently having a massive annual subscription sale on Apple App Store where I bought my annual for 29 a year. And then you can add on ControlD Full Control for half off the price when you enter the same email ID as Windscribe, which is an additional 20 per year).

The advantage of enabling ControlD in the DNS settings of the router, means no more AdGuard Home. In my case, I created a ControlD account. I then go into my ControlD panel online, and create a main profile. On this main profile, I add all my blocklists (HaGezi Pro, HaGeZi full TiF, HaGezi Badware etc). I also enable ControlD's new registered domains blocklist etc. Then I create endpoints (i.e. specific ids for each device I want to connect to it). I then get the resolver ID for that device (in this case my Beryl AX), log into the Beryl AX, and go to Network –> DNS settings. Here I choose 'Encrypted' and ControlD. On doing so you can select either the free option (where you can't enter a custom endpoint, i.e. device/ resolver id) or premium (where you can enter a custom resolver id/ device id/ endpoint). I choose premium and enter the resolver id I just copied into it.

That is it. The Beryl AX flawlessly then communicates with my ControlD panel and I have zero blocklists enabled in the router itself. I don't need AdGuard Home anymore and can have a combo of the heavy blocklists in my ControlD online panel. Because I am not configuring any blocklist on my Beryl AX, my memory has dropped to under 65% from over 80% to 90% (when I had enabled AGH in the router), and it is now purring. The resolver latency is 1ms, while the proxy latency is under 30ms.

I am thrilled with the WindScribe and ControlD combo and thank GL.iNet for including them natively in the router's firmware.
