Hey r/80bee!
This afternoon, I just pushed an update to the **Private DNS** module, and I wanted to take a moment to walk through the changes. I also wanted to explain why these changes were made and get your thoughts on which providers you prefer.

### What Changed?
-
**Saying Goodbye to Mullvad DNS**
– As some of you may already know, Mullvad is permanently sunsetting its public encrypted DNS service on **November 2, 2026**.
– To keep your devices from losing connectivity when that cutoff arrives, we've phased out Mullvad and added a migration warning banner if your device is currently configured with it. -
**New Provider: Control D**
– A modern, high-speed encrypted resolver.
– **Ads & Trackers** (p2.freedns.controld.com): Aggressively drops advertising networks, telemetry, and tracking beacons across all apps.
– **Family Friendly** (p4.freedns.controld.com): All-in-one protection blocking ads, malicious domains, and adult content. -
**New Provider: Quad9 DNS**
– Swiss-governed, non-profit security resolver (dns.quad9.net).
– Focused on enterprise-grade threat intelligence, DNSSEC validation, and zero logging. Perfect for users who prioritize privacy and malware protection over cosmetic adblocking. -
**Zero Battery Drain & System-Wide Protection**
– Unlike VPN-based adblockers, setting Android's native Private DNS operates directly at the OS networking layer. This protects every app on your phone with zero background battery impact.

### Community Check-in: Which DNS option are you running?
Now, I'm really interested in hearing how you set up your Android devices:
– Are you rocking **Control D** or **AdGuard** for ad & tracker stripping?
– Did you go with **Quad9** for strict privacy, threat defense, and no-logging Swiss jurisdiction?
– Or do you run your own self-hosted NextDNS / Pi-hole instance?
Drop a comment below with your pick and any resolvers you'd like to see added next!
