File explorer freeze after resume from sleep – Windows 11

I have been experiencing the captioned problem for over a year. This issue occurs intermittently when the PC resumes from sleep, particularly when I click on a SMB drive in file explorer. The only solution is to long press the power button to hard restart. I have tried all sorts of suggested remedies on Microsoft and Reddit forum, but with no success.

However, the problem has not occurred again since I made the following changes two weeks ago. In case anyone else is experiencing the same issue, it may be worth giving them a try.

  1. Remap the network drives using NAS’s static IP address instead of name (e.g., use \\192.168.1.50\Share instead of \\MyNasDrive\Share). This bypasses the DNS lookup phase entirely when the network card wakes up.

2. Open a Powershell terminal in admin mode and run the command below to change the SMB client configuration in the Windows kernel from the default 60-second timeout window to 10 seconds:

Set-SmbClientConfiguration -SessionTimeout 10 -Force
