Hello from a new Olilo customer 👋

I’m moving over to Olilo next week, having finally escaped Vodafone after a rather frustrating experience.

I’m currently on Vodafone Full Fibre 910 over CityFibre, so I’m particularly interested to see how Olilo performs over the same underlying network.
The main issue with Vodafone was actually pretty straightforward. I bought a 910 Mbps symmetrical service, but my wired tests were consistently around 650-720 Mbps download and 350-440 Mbps upload. In other words, a service advertised as symmetrical was performing like an asymmetrical one.

Vodafone initially kept pointing me towards their 455 Mbps minimum download guarantee and saying there was no fault. I kept explaining that this wasn’t the point. I wasn’t claiming that my download was below their minimum guarantee. I was questioning why a service sold and advertised as 910/910 was performing so differently between download and upload.
I eventually won that argument, and managed to leave the Vodafone contract without an early termination fee.

Unfortunately, the speed issue wasn’t the only problem. I found Vodafone’s customer service absolutely appalling. I was repeatedly bounced from one agent to another. At one point I was told someone would call me back in a few days once “the heads” had checked something, only for somebody else to end up dealing with it instead.

Their Just Ask Once service was another particular joy. It routinely crashed and logged me out, and I was frequently transferred to another department that apparently wasn’t included in the Just Ask Once service. If you didn’t get back to the new agent quickly enough on the web chat, the whole session would time out and you’d be back at square one.

So I’m rather looking forward to the move.
Unshaped traffic, DNS I can actually control, a community where I can get help through multiple different channels, and a technical product that gets my geeky juices flowing. 😂

After Vodafone, the prospect of an ISP that actually seems to embrace technically minded customers is extremely appealing.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Olilo over CityFibre can actually deliver. Hopefully I’ll be back next week with some very satisfying symmetrical speed tests 😂
